We engaged Lain Hellrich of "High Country Carpentry" in Fairlie to manage and do all the renovations.
Lain organised Cliff Trotter of "Cliff Hanger" in Timaru to design and do all the architectural drawings for the renovation. Before we start on all of this and publish the plans, etc, we will post a whole heap of photos of the work we did prior to the builders moving in. Nick was in his element trashing walls and taking out a chimney, while I was a little nervous that he was taking out too much before Lain got there....thinking the walls would come tumbling down.
The renovation of a large country homestead built in 1912 while improving the surrounding farmland. Starting with the cleaning of the house as it has been abandoned for a couple of years and was left in an extremely poor and filthy condition.
Welcome
Welcome to the Fairlie Funky Farm blog where Nick and Lisa will be describing their adventures renovating Nga Punawai, an old home in Fairlie, South Canterbury, New Zealand.

It's been so long since our last post and so much has happened over the Spring and Summer that it is difficult to know where to start. We will just keep the story going from where we last signed off. Unfortunately though, in case you had become attached to the little chickens, we had better inform you early that they were eaten by a weasel. However the weasel met his maker under the tyre of the builder's ute. Brian the proud and handsome rooster also went with the weasel...not under the tyre but by the paws and jaws of one of the worker's dogs.
